Online Learning Environments

Include both commercial and open-source products, allow educators to bring diverse tools together such as wikis, blogs, message boards and document libraries, to build both a stand-alone course or to provide comprehensive support for face-to-face instruction.

Skill Development

Includes a variety of instructional tools that focus on building specific, often sequential, sets of academic and 21st Century Skills. The more sophisticated of these tools allow for the comprehensive management of student progress within the system.

Libraries of Video Instruction

Exemplified by iTunes U, Kahn Academy and the open courseware movement, these can be as simple as audio or video recordings of lectures or demonstrations. Many individual teachers are creating their own libraries of recorded explanations of content to which students can return any time that they need a concept reinforced.
