NOTICE TO OUR CUSTOMERS

EFIX1 DESCRIPTION
*****************
- PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1 fixes the following problems in PowerPath 4.5.0:

  - OPT 227896 Running the "powermt remove" command at the same time
               that the Plug And Play manager is removing a dead path
               causes the host to hang.

  - OPT 225841 Multiprocessor systems hang when the SCSI queue becomes full.
 
  - OPT 223225 On an HPxp 12000 array, failing the first bus disables the
               second bus as well.

- eFix1 is distributed as a zip file:

  - Windows 2000: EMCPower.W2000.4.5.0.EF1.GA.zip
 
  - Windows 2003 32-bit: EMCPower.W2003_32.4.5.0.EF1.GA.zip
 
  - Windows 2003 x64-bit: EMCPower.W2003_X64.4.5.0.EF1.GA.zip

  - Windows 2003 ia64-bit: EMCPower.W2003_IA64.4.5.0.EF1.GA.zip

- PowerPath 4.5.0 must be installed on the host before PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1
  is installed.
 
- The installation of eFix1 preserves all persistent PowerPath configuration
  and registration information. You do not have to re-enter the registration key.
 
- You must reboot the host after installing eFix1.

- You must reinstall PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1 on a host each time that you add an
  array to or remove an array from the PowerPath configuration.

- eFix1 can be backed out, leaving the base PowerPath 4.5.0 package installed
  on the host.

- You should remove eFix1 before upgrading a Windows 2000 server to
  Windows 2003.

- You must remove eFix1 before upgrading to or installing a version of
  PowerPath later than 4.5.0.

- eFix1 is available in English only.

- You can install and remove eFix1 using the InstallShield wizard or from
  the command line. Instructions for InstallShield follow. Refer to the
  "PowerPath for Windows Installation and Administration Guide" for
  instructions on how to install and remove PowerPath using the command line.


PREREQUISITES
*************
- Check the Powerlink website (http://Powerlink.EMC.com)
  or contact EMC Customer Support for the most current information.
  EMC updates release notes periodically and post them on Powerlink.

- PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1 is an upgrade installation only. You must have
  installed PowerPath 4.5.0 before you can install PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1.
 
- If desired, run the "powermt save" command to save the current
  PowerPath configuration before installing eFix1.


INSTALLING EFIX1
****************
1. Copy the appropriate zip file from its source location to a temporary
   directory on your host.

2. Extract the archive from the zip file.

3. Click the EMCPower.<platform>.4.5.0.EF1.GA.exe icon. Alternatively,
   choose Run from the Start menu, enter
   <drive>:\<temp_dir>\EMCPower.<platform>.4.5.0.EF1.GA.exe in the text
   box, and click OK.

   where <drive> and <temp_dir> are the volume and directory where you
   unzipped the package, and <platform> is either "W2000", "W2003_32",
   "W2003_X64", or "W2003_IA64".
    
4. On the Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for EMC PowerPath screen,
   click Next.

5. Click Install on the Ready to Install the Program screen.

6. Click Finish on the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen.

7. Click Yes when prompted to reboot the host.


CONFIRMING THAT EFIX1 HAS BEEN INSTALLED
****************************************
To confirm that eFix1 has been installed, go to Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs, and verify that "EMC PowerPath 4.5.0.eFix1
(<platform>)" appears in the list.


REMOVING EFIX1
**************
Complete the following procedure to remove eFix1 only, leaving the
base PowerPath package installed on the host.

1. If the PowerPath Administrator is running, close it.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs, select
   "EMC PowerPath 4.5.0.eFix1 (<platform>), and then click Remove.

4. When prompted to remove PowerPath, click Yes.

5. When prompted to restart the host, click Yes.


REMOVING POWERPATH
******************
Complete the following procedure to remove the base PowerPath
package on the host.

NOTE: Make sure that you have removed PowerPath 4.5.0.EF1
      before removing the base PowerPath package.

1. If the PowerPath Administrator is running, close it.

2. Close all applications.

3. Open the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs, select
   "EMC PowerPath 4.5.0 (<platform>)", and then click Remove.

4. When prompted to remove PowerPath, click Yes.

5. When prompted to restart the host, click No.

6. Select Shut Down from the Start menu. On the Shut Down Windows
   dialog box, select Shut Down and click OK.
  
7. Disconnect all duplicate physical connections between the host
   and the storage system except one cable, leaving a single path.
  
8. Restart the host.
