EFI System Update Package Install Instructions The contents of this update package is used to update the System Firmware for the following Intel Server Products: Intel(R) Server Board S5520UR Intel(R) Server System SR2612UR System Update Instructions - S5520UR_3 Released - August 28, 2009 ********************************************************************************** This Update package includes the following system software updates: System BIOS - R0038 BMC Firmware - R40 Management Engine (ME) - 1.11 FRUSDR Utility - R18 Important NOTES: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -BMC 34 or later MUST be installed on a system prior to attempting to install BIOS 33 or later. If BIOS33 is installed with a BMC version prior to BMC 34 boot instability may occur. If this happens recovery is possible using the BMC Force Update procedure. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - The software updates in this update package have only been tested on -60x level hardware. Previous pre-production hardware releases CAN NOT be updated with these updates. Intel will not provide support with these software releases on pre-production level hardware. - All the updates provided in this package are EFI based (unless otherwise noted). To run these updates, you must boot the system to the embedded EFI shell and then access the USB device containing the system software udpates. See instructions below - It is highly recommended that you read the Release Notes (.TXT Files) for each of the software updates provided to understand what the known issues are, what issues were addressed from previous updates, and what new features (if any) were added. *********************************************************************************** *********************************************************************************** ********* Standard Update Procedure ************** *********************************************************************************** - Copy all the files to a USB disk-on-key device - Verify that all jumpers are installed in their default locations. Switching jumpers is not required to properly update the server board, however any jumpers not set to default may cause unknown behaviors during the update process. ** Booting to the embedded EFI operating environment** - Plug in your USB device containing the system software updates - Power on your server - During POST, hit the F2 key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility - Alternatively F6 can be pressed to go directly to the BOOT MANAGER - In BIOS Setup, move the cursor over to the BOOT MANAGER menu - Move the cursor down to EFI and hit enter. - The system will boot to the embedded EFI Shell - Once the system has booted, and is sitting at a EFI Shell prompt, type 'FS0:' to access the USB device. If your USB device is not accessible, type the 'MAP -r' command to determine which device ID EFI has assigned your USB device, then type in the device ID using the same command syntax as before ':'. - Follow the instructions below to perform each software update. Update the system software in the sequence specified. Failure to update in the proper order may result in the system hanging or restarting on boot. *** Update BMC Firmware *** IMPORTANT BMC UPDATE NOTES: -If an RMM3 is installed in the system, it must be updated along with the BMC. DO NOT update the RMM3 independent of the BMC. The BMC may be updated alone if an RMM3 is not present. BMC_40 UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS: 1) Confirm that the BMC Force Update Jumper is in the default location (pins 1-2) 2) Boot the system to EFI and navigate update directory 3) Verify that the following files are present: BMC40.NSH; BMC_0040.ima; FWPIAUPD.EFI; IPMI.EFI; 4) run the BMC40.nsh script file by typing 'BMC40' 5) If an RMM3 is installed, the RMM3 will be updated automatically. The BMC update is complete. Either reboot the server or go to the BIOS Update described below. *** Update System BIOS *** 1) Confirm that the BIOS Default, BIOS Recovery, and Password Clear jumpers are in the default locations (pins 1-2) 2) Boot the system to EFI and navigate to the update directory 3) Verify that the R0038.CAP, IFLASH32.EFI and BIOS38.NSH files are present in the directory 2) At the shell prompt type BIOS38 and press the Enter key The BIOS update is complete. Either reboot the server or go to the ME/FW Update (if required) or the FRU/SDR update described below. For BIOS recovery instructions, see the BIOS 38 Release Notes. *** Management Engine (ME) Firmware Update *** 1) Boot the system to EFI and navigate to the update directory 2) Verify that the fwpiaupd.efi, ipmi.efi, sps_111_dib.bin, and ME111.nsh files are present in the directory 3) At the shell prompt type ME111 and press the Enter key 4) The update may take up to 5 minutes to complete The ME FW update is complete. Either reboot the server or go to the FRUSDR Update described below. *** Updating the FRU and SDR data on your server *** 1) Boot to EFI shell and confirm that the following files are in the directory: FRUSDR.efi; IPMI.efi; MASTER.cfg; UR_BMC.fru; UR_BMC.sdr; FUR18.nsh 2) At the EFI Shell prompt type FUR18 and hit the ENTER key to start the utility 3) Follow the on screen instructions and enter desired information when prompted. 4) When the FRUSDR utility has completed its update, power cycle the server and reboot. *** Verifying updates *** 1) During POST, hit the F2 Key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility 2) Hit the F9 key to load BIOS Defaults 3) At the MAIN menu verify the BIOS revision is S5500.86B.08.00.0038 4) Move cursor to the SERVER MANAGEMENT Menu 5) Move cursor down to the SYSTEM INFORMATION Option and hit Enter 6) Verify the BMC Firmware revision is 0.40 7) Verify the SDR Revision is 0.18 8) Make any desired BIOS setting changes 9) Hit the F10 Key to save changes and Exit The System Software Update is Complete.
