Do not attempt to install the driver for SLES11 on SLES11 SP1. It may not work properly. A future release will contain the driver for SLES with the latest service pack. SLES11SP1 can use the inbox driver until then. ================ Known Restrictions ================ N/A ==================== Contents in the package ==================== The following files are included in this package: Driver package: mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.i686.rpm mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.x86_64.rpm mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10.i586.rpm mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10.x86_64.rpm mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles11.i586.rpm mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles11.x86_64.rpm Diver RPM Source files: mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2.src.rpm Floppy disk images for creating Installation disk(s): mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.1.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.1.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.2.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.2.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.3.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.3.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.4.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.4.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.5.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.5.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.i686.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-rhel5.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10.i586.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp1.i586.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp1.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp2.i586.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp2.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp3.i586.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles10sp3.x86_64.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles11.i586.dd.gz mpt2sas-05.00.02.00-2-sles11.x86_64.dd.gz ================ Driver Installation Instructions ================ This updated driver can be applied using the normal OS installation options. 1 The purpose of this document is to provide clear instructions on how to install OS on drives attached to the Intel(R) IT/IR RAID controller or device. 2 Prepare Installation disk(s) 2.1 Driver files are available on the CD that shipped with the product or can be downloaded from http://support.intel.com. 2.2 Create install disk(s) The driver is provided as driver update disk (DUD) image (file extension is .img). To prepare the installation driver diskette, if user has a system with Microsoft Windows* operating system installed, a third party utility must be used to extract the DUD image to a floppy disk, for example, using rawrite utility; or users can use ĄźddĄŻ command under Linux or Sun Solaris* operating system to extract the DUD image to a floppy diskette. Below is the command format. dd if= of= path-to-media On most systems, path-to-media is /dev/fd0, which is the floppy drive special file. User must identify the path-to-media if using USB floppy drive. 3 Installation methods There are different types of installation possible with the installation package provided. Those are explained in different sections. 3.1 OS installation on RAID This mode of installation is selected when user needs to install the Operating system on a fresh RAID configuration. For this kind of installation the driver update disc is used at the starting of the installation and the installer will update the system with driver images for the required kernels. Follow the procedure given below to install Intel(R) IT/IR RAID Stack at the time of Installation. ----------------- 3.1.1 Installing RHEL5 on RAID ----------------- a) Insert floppy diskette created in step 2 into floppy drive a) Boot to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM with OS Disk 1. b) At the Linux installation prompt type: linux dd c) Press at the boot prompt on the Welcome screen. d) Copy the Linux driver image from the Universal Driver Suite CD to diskette. Insert the diskette with driver image. e) Select Yes. f) Scroll down to select the Intel RAID adapter driver. g) The utility locates and loads the driver for your device. h) Follow the Red Hat Linux installation procedure to complete the installation. i) Reboot the system. ----------------- 3.1.2 Installing SLES10/11 on RAID ----------------- a) Boot to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM with OS Disk 1. b) When first screen come up press F5 key for SLES 10 or F6 key for SLES 9 to load a driver, then select installation menu option c) Insert DUD when it is prompted d) Follow the installation procedure to continue the OS installation. Tips: press ALT+CTRL+F4 to see whether the driver is loaded. ----------------- 3.2 Updating RHEL or SLES RAID driver on already installed system ----------------- This method is used to update IT/IR RAID driver in a system, which is already installed with an older (or OS embedded) driver version. Here this procedure explains the manual process of updating the driver. Follow the steps given to update driver. 1) Create RAID array on RAID Controller using Intel(R) IT/IR RAID Console Utility. 2) Boot the OS from primary controller/Disk. 3) Copy mptlinux rpm files to a temporary directory in the OS. 4) Query which version of the MPT driver is installed by running the command #rpm -qa | grep mpt2sas 5) (If result of step#4 is null, then skip this step.)Remove the bundled version of the MPT driver by running the command #rpm -e mpt2sas-- 6) Install the new version of the MPT driver by running the command #rpm -ivh mpt2sas---..rpm 7) Run command line #lsmod to check if mptsas has been loaded successfully. 8) Run command line #modinfo mptsas to make sure that the mptsas driver version has been updated 9) Completed. ================ Known Bugs ================ N/A ================ Fixes/Updates ================ Version 5.00.02 Initial release for RMS2LL080 and RMS2LL040 modules *Other names and brands may be claimed as the property of others.
