Choosing the correct affinity option for a Global Hot Spare
No Affinity: This allows the Global Hot Spare to be a spare for any Virtual Drive, regardless of location.
With Affinity: Sets the Global Hot Spare to have an affinity with the enclosure in which it is located. This disk will only be a spare for Virtual Drives in the same enclosure.

Disable Audible Alarm
StorCon | Advanced Setup | Configure Controller | F4 to silence alarm
or
StorCon+ | Physical Configuration | Right click the controller icon | Silence

Error : Component Cannot Be Found
Use StorCon in DOS for major firmware updates.

Error: "Detected damaged primary configuration data"
StorCon | Advanced | Physical Devices | SCSI ID | F8 to Repair

Error: "No Valid Controller Found" Adding a Zero Channel RAID Controller
Press Ctrl-A during POST
Select a channel | Main Options | Disable HostRAID | Save and exit.
Power off the system and install the Zero Channel RAID.

Error: "Splitting Invalid Mirror-Devices of Drive X into Several Drives"
Two drives of a mirror have been updated individually, but neither drive has failed. Remove the drive with the "outdated" data from the array and rebuild the mirror on a clean drive.

Error: Cannot Load MAPILogon() from MAPI32.DLL
Error: "Cannot Load MAPILogon() from MAPI32.DLL" or "Cannot init MAPI !"
Use the Email Notification option in the RAID Configuration Service. This uses SMTP instead of MAPI to send the email notification.
Other RAIDMail functions, such as local and remote alerting, will continue to function.

Error: Safety disk configuration error for fault tolerant operation

During POST you may see: "Safety disk configuration error for fault tolerant operation. Reconfigure the fault bus processors" The SAF-TE card tracks what devices are in each slot of the hot-swap backplane. If the cached information doesn't match, delete and re-add the SAF-TE information manually.

  1. Enter the BIOS StorCon utility by pressing [Ctrl-G] during POST
  2. Advanced | Configure Physical Devices | ESG-SHV SCA HSBP | Enclosure Slot Configuration
  3. Highlight each slot in succession and press [Enter] to remove the cached SAF-TE information.
  4. Repeat the process to rescan the hard disk information.
  5. Exit StorCon and reboot.

RAID Spanning With ZCR and Intel® Server Board SCB2
The internal and external connectors are on separate channels. You cannot span a single array across both.

SCSI disconnect errors
Last Status code of 0x0000010F indicates that the controller attempted to do a normal disconnect operation with the device, but was unable to do so for a timeout period of 30 seconds. Replace the device.

SCSI U320 Disk Drives Cause Erratic Behaviors With Intel® RAID Controllers
Hard drive testing conducted by Intel has determined that, in some cases, improvements in hard drive reliability can be obtained by utilizing the latest versions of hard drive firmware. The following anomalies have been observed with some older versions of hard drive firmware:

Hard disk drive lockup
SCSI bus reset
Hard drive device timeout
Drive offline status
Operating system lockup or system panic (blue screen or kernel dump)

Hard drive manufactures conduct extensive testing and frequently post hard drive firmware updates that address known issues or provide added features. It is recommended that customers contact the drive vendor to obtain the latest hard drive firmware and update utilities for the drives chosen for use.
