The most current release of the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter software, release 3.0 (30IPStorage.exe) is the only software release for the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter that is tested and certified with use in Windows* Server 2003.
The older release 2.20 (220IPStorage.exe) is still available as a convenience for users that have standardized on that release, or that need support for Red Hat Linux* 7.2. Please do not install this older version on Windows Server 2003. It was released prior to the release of Windows Server 2003 and was not tested in that operating system. Experiments have shown that installing release 2.20 in Windows Server 2003 may work, but it may make it difficult or impossible to upgrade to newer releases without re-installing the OS.
If you need to upgrade the firmware on the adapter prior to installing release 3.0 in Windows Server 2003, please follow the DOS-based "failsafe" method described in the release 3.0 user guide.
In general, we recommend using only the certified version of release 3.0. There is a slightly modified version of 3.0 that is not certified in the download 30IPSpecial.exe. This version contains a work-around for devices that require support for SCSI AutoSense data that exceeds the SCSI AutoSense buffer limits imposed by Windows.
Some devices, such as some model tape drives, have relied on AutoSense data larger then the limit imposed by Windows to function properly. This work-around should only be used in conjunction with devices requiring this specific behavior; all others should use the official WHQL certified driver.

Steps for Using this Registry Entry File
This fix was previously available as a hot fix, but became part of service pack 3. For information, go to http://support.microsoft.com* and search on Q302895 in Microsoft's knowledge base.
The new software release (3.0) for the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter for Windows* has been completely re-architected. This new version requires that the Microsoft* iSCSI service be installed. This product can be downloaded from Microsoft's Web site. See the document titled "How to download the Microsoft iSCSI initiator service" for details.
When installing the new PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter initiator, there is a setting you must be aware of. This setting is in PROSet for IP Storage on the initiator properties "Timeouts" tab. Here you set the timeout value for retrying failed iSCSI commands. Be aware that, if you select "Retry Failed iSCSI commands forever" on a persistent target and that target is not online when the computer is booting, Windows will hang during the system start and not complete until the target becomes available.
See the user guide for details on setting the adapter and initiator properties.
If you are having issues with the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter, please make sure all software modules were successfully updated to the latest version before contacting Intel® Customer Support. Here is how to find the revision numbers.
From the Control Panel, open PROSet for IP Storage. Select "Help", and then Support. The following dialog box will be displayed.
Note 1: The MSiSCSI Service Version will vary depending on the version of the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Service you are using. Please be sure you are using the latest official release.
Note 2: The firmware version will end in a 2 (e.g. 4.6.87.2) if you are using the proper firmware on the current model of the PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter (PWSA8701T, PBA number A98148-xxx) and will end in a 1 (e.g. 4.6.87.1) if you are using the original version (PWSA8700T, PBA number A57521-xxx).

Solution:
If the PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter cannot find the iSCSI target on your network, verify that the PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter is using the latest software and is updated to the latest firmware, and that the target is compliant to the proper draft version of the iSCSI standard. The original version of the PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter (PWSA8700T, PBA# A57521-xxx) with firmware 1.08 is compliant to draft .8 of the standard. The current version of the PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter (PWSA8701T, PBA# A98148-xxx) using the latest software is compliant to drafts .16 to .20.
If the target is online and compliant to the proper draft revision, try connecting a standard gigabit network adapter to the same port and see if you can ping the IP address of the target.
Cause:
The iSCSI target is not online, is on an unreachable subnet or is not compliant to the proper draft version of the iSCSI standard.
Intel believes that this issue will only occur in extreme test conditions and is unlikely to occur during normal operation. This issue is most likely to occur in environments with consistently deep queuing at 4K I/O size with randomly mixed reads and writes.
Intel has developed a firmware update which resolves this issue. This patch has been implemented in the majority of the available inventory in our sales channel and the entire inventory at our factory. All new adapters shipped as of 4/11/2003 contain this patch. If you purchased an Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter prior to 4/11/2003 with firmware version 2.5.39** on the adapter and feel that your environment may be similar to that described above, use the firmware available on Download Center.
**To determine the firmware version In Microsoft Operating Systems, open PROSet for IP Storage Adapters. The firmware version can be found on the General Tab.
Can the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter TCP/IP offload engine be used to offload the TCP/IP protocol stack for my regular network adapter as well as the iSCSI interface?
The TCP/IP offload capability of the PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter cannot be used for any other function or for any interface other than the iSCSI interface itself.
Does the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter support CHAP?
Yes, it does support CHAP, including mutual authentication..
Does the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter support IPSec?
No, it does not support IPSec. In Windows*, The Microsoft iSCSI initiator service will allow you to select and configure IPSec, but the adapter and its drivers do not support it and will not negotiate an IPSec connection regardless of the settings in the Microsoft iSCSI initiator service.
Does the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter support jumbo frames?
Yes, it does support jumbo frames. The only jumbo frame size supported is 9K.
How many TCP/IP connections does the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter support per session?
The Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter supports one connection per session.
How many target logical units can the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter support?
The PRO/1000 T IP Storage adapter, using the release 3.0 software, will support up to 40 logical units in Red Hat* Linux, and up to 255 per adapter in Windows* Server 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional.
Are there any drivers for 64-bit operating systems?
No, not at this time.
