EFI System Update Package Install Instructions The contents of this update package is used to update the System Firmware for the following Intel Server Products: Intel(R) Server Board S3420GPLX or s3420GPLC Intel(R) Server System SR1630GP or SR1630HGP System Update Instructions - S3420GP (Production Release) Released - May. 27, 2014 ********************************************************************************** This Update package includes the following system software updates: System BIOS - R0052 (Production Release) BMC Firmware - v01.26 (Production Release) FRUSDR Utility - 22 (Production Release) Important NOTES: - All the updates provided in this package are EFI based. To run these updates, you must boot the system to the embedded EFI shell and then access the USB device containing the system software udpates. See instructions below - The System BIOS revision provided in this Software Update Package does not include processor microCode to support any production Intel(R) Xeon(R) processors - It is highly recommended that you read the Release Notes (.TXT Files) for each of the software updates provided to understand what the known issues are, what issues were addressed from previous updates, and what new features (if any) were added. *********************************************************************************** ********* Standard Update Procedure ************** *********************************************************************************** - Copy all the files to a USB disk-on-key device - Verify that the BIOS Select jumper on the server board is set to its default postion on pins 2-3. If this jumper is set on pins 1-2, you must move it back to its normal position before updating the BIOS. ** Booting to the embedded EFI operating environment** - Plug in your USB device containing the system software updates - Power on your server - During POST, hit the F2 key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility - In BIOS Setup, move the cursor over to the BOOT MANAGER menu - Move the cursor down to EFI and hit enter. - The system will boot to the embedded EFI Shell - Once the system has booted, and is sitting at a EFI Shell prompt, type FS0: to access the USB device. If your USB device is not accessible, type the MAP command to determine which device ID EFI has assigned your USB device, then type in the device ID using the same command syntax as before : - Follow the instructions below to perform each software update. Update the system software in the sequence specified: *** Update BMC Firmware *** 1) Verify that the following files are present in the directory: upd_BMC.NSH; FWPIAUPD.EFI; BMC_0126.ima; IPMI.EFI 2) At the EFI command prompt type upd_BMC.nsh and hit enter The update should take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete When the BMC Firmware update is complete, either reboot the server, or update the HSC Firmware, or go to the FRUSDR update section described below When the HSC Firmware update is complete, either reboot the server, or go to the FRUSDR update described below *** Updating the FRU and SDR data on your server *** 1) At the EFI Shell prompt type upd_FRUSDR.nsh and hit the ENTER key to start the utility 2) Answer questions and enter desired information when prompted. 3) When the FRUSDR utility has completed its update, power cycle the server and reboot. *** Update System BIOS *** IMPORTANT BIOS UPDATE NOTEs: - The following procedure will update the BIOS twice in order to load it into each bank of the rolling BIOS feature. BIOS Update Instructions: 1) Verify that the R0052.CAP, IFLASH32.EFI and upd_BIOS.NSH files are present in the directory 2) At the shell prompt type upd_BIOS.NSH and press the Enter key 3) The update should complete within 3 minutes 4) Shut down the system but leave it connected to AC power 5) Clear CMOS by moving the Clear CMOS jumper on the baseboard to the clear position (pins 2-3). wait a few seconds, and move the jumper back to pins 1-2. 6) Boot the system and enter BIOS Setup by pressing the F2 Key during POST 7) Verify the BIOS string shows the BIOS revision as S3420GP.86B.01.00.0051 8) Press F9 to load defaults 9) Press F10 to save and reset the system. The BIOS update is complete. Reboot the server and verify the update as the following. *** Verifying updates *** 1) During POST, hit the F2 Key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility 2) Hit the F9 key to load BIOS Defaults 3) At the MAIN menu verify the BIOS revision is S3420GP.86B.01.00.0052 3) Move cursor to the SERVER MANAGEMENT Menu 4) Move cursor down to the SYSTEM INFORMATION Option and hit Enter 5) Verify the BMC Firmware revision is 0126 6) Verify the SDR Revision is 22 The System Software Update is Complete.
