For normal updates of the firmware, simply download the latest firmware to a floppy diskette and update the firmware using the RAID Storage Console TO CREATE THE FRU DISKETTE 1. Under Windows 2000, Double-click on the file “fru23301.exe” to extract the necessary files to a floppy diskette. Be sure to have a blank, formatted floppy disk in the a:\ drive. TO RECOVER A CONTROLLERS FIRMWARE Take all precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage before handling the RAID controller. 1. Power off all system components and disconnect their power cords. 2. Remove the cover from the system to gain access to the PCI slots. 3. Remove the RAID controller from your system. 4. Move the jumper from position 2-3 to position 1-2 (check product documentation for information on which jumper to move for your particular controller) 5. Re-install the adapter in the PCI slot in which it was previously installed. 6. Replace the cover and reconnect all power cords. 7. Boot the server to the Intel® System Resource CD that shipped with your Intel server board (server BIOS must be configured to boot from CDROM). 8) When the server boots to the System Resource CD, select QUIT from the menu and exit to DOS. 9) Insert the FRU diskette (created above). 10) Type a: and press ENTER 11) Type autoexec.bat and press ENTER 12) The FRU utility will start up and pause at the copyright information. Press to continue. 13) The FRU utility will automatically update to a set version of the RAID firmware. The firmware download may take up to 3 minutes. NOTE: If the firmware one the controller is still valid this process will not work. Use the RAID Storage Console to update the firmware. 14) Upon completion, power off all system components and disconnect power cords. 15) Remove the system cover. 16) Remove the RAID controller from your system and move the jumper back to its original position. 17) Reinstall the RAID controller in the PCI slot in which it was previously installed. 18) Replace the cover; reconnect all power cords and power up the system.
