The terminology may be used interchangeably. * There is a driver that is included with WinXP for the 2011 PC Card - the driver in this web package replaces that driver - WinXP automatically loads the native included driver upon the initial insertion of a 2011 PC Card. The following instructions provide for the installation of the new driver via the driver update feature of WinXP. Once this update is accomplished the new driver, rather than the one that comes included with WinXP, will be loaded automatically whenever the 2011 PC Card is inserted. 2011 and 2011B Installation Notes - update an existing driver: Windows 2000 1. Start Device Manager (right click My Computer, select Properties, Select the Hardware Tab, Select Device Manager) 2. Expand the Network Adapters 3. Right click the driver and select Properties 4. Select the Driver Tab (note the current driver version number) 5. Select Update Driver 6. Select Display a List... 7. Select the Adapter (Intel) and Select Have Disk 8. Browse to the archive base directory (by default c:\Intel_2011_2011B_PCCard_3.1.1.31) 9. Select the file Netwlan5.inf 10. Select YES at the Digital Signature Warning 11. Select Finish 12. Go back into the Device Manager and verify the version has changed to 3.1.1.31 Windows XP 1. Start Device Manager (right click My Computer, select Properties, Select the Hardware Tab, Select Device Manager) 2. Expand the Network Adapters 3. Right click the driver and select Properties 4. Select the Driver Tab (note the current driver version number) 5. Select Update Driver 6. Select Install from a List... 7. Select Don't Search... 8. Select the Adapter (Wireless LAN) and Select Have Disk 9. Browse to the archive directory (by default c:\Intel_2011_2011B_PCCard_3.1.1.31\wireless\drivers\XP) 10. If prompted repeatedly for files, browse to the above directory for the files 11. Select the file Netwlan5.inf 12. Select CONTINUE at the Logo Testing Warning 13. Select Finish 14. Go back into the Device Manager and verify the version has changed to 3.1.1.31 Windows ME, Windows 98, Windows 95 1. Right click My Computer (desktop icon) 2. Select Properties and then the Device Manager tab 3. Select the Wireless network adapter from the device tree 4. Select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver 5. Select specify the location and click Next 6. Check specify, then specify the location of the downloaded files 7. Browse to the folder where the driver was extracted to (default is c:\Intel_2011_2011B_PCcard_3.1.1.31) and click on the folder, then select OK. 8. Select Next (the updated driver is now installed) 9. Select Finish (the driver version should now display 3.1.1.31) 10. Select Close 2011 and 2011B Installation Notes - new adapter: 2011 under Windows XP Installation Instructions 1. Insert the Intel PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card. Windows will automatically load the driver that comes as standard with WinXP. This installation is done silently (there are minimal messages or prompts). 2. Next follow the instructions as above for updating an existing driver under Windows XP. 2011B under Windows XP with SP1 1. Insert the Intel PRO/Wireless 2011B LAN PC Card. Windows will automatically load the driver that comes as standard with WinXP. This installation is done silently (there are minimal messages or prompts). 2. Next follow the instructions as above for updating an existing driver under Windows XP. 2011 or 2011B under Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME Installation Instructions 1. Follow the instructions that came with your adapter, only rather than allowing Windows to search for the driver on the CD, specifiy for Windows to search a specific location and specify the location of the downloaded device driver. By default this location is c:\Intel_2011_2011B_PCcard_3.1.1.31 Alternatively you can install the driver on the CD by following the instructions that came with your adapter, and then utilize the update an existing driver instructions above. 2011 and 2011B under Windows NT Installation Notes: Before you install the driver ----------------------------- 1. Make sure that Windows NT* Service Pack 6 is installed. 2. Make sure CardWizard* 5.0 from Systemsoft is installed. 3. Make sure that you have the Microsoft Windows NT Setup CD and the Microsoft Windows Service Pack 6 CD available. 4. Extract the Windows NT driver files from the CD to a floppy disk or to a folder on the hard disk of the laptop. To install the driver --------------------- 1. Double-click My Computer, Control Panel, and then the Network icon. 2. Click the Adapters tab and click Add. 3. Click Have Disk, and browse to the driver files that you extracted from the CD. 4. Select Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 3.3 volt PC Card and click OK. 5. If Windows prompts you for the Windows installation CD, follow the instructions to install networking components. 6. In the Easy Setup window, enter the Network Name (SSID) for your wireless network. 7. Click the Advanced button and click the WLAN Adapter tab. 8. Choose the appropriate Interrupt Number for your laptop and click OK. 9. Click OK in Network properties and restart your computer. 10. Install Service Pack 6 again. If Card Wizard notifies you of a conflict with the selected Interrupt, click the Card Wizard's Correct button to open Network properties.
