ReadMe File for the Intel(R) PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter ========================================================== December 1, 2003 You MUST have the Microsoft* iSCSI initiator service installed for the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter software to work, whether this is a new installation or an upgrade from an earlier version. Go to http://support.intel.com and search on "Microsoft iSCSI initiator service" to learn how to download the service. For Red Hat* Linux user information, either see the ReadMe.txt file in the RedHatLinux directory on the Intel CD, or open the index.htm file in the Documentation/UserConfigurationGuide directory to use the web-based user guide. For Windows* user information, double-click on the autorun.exe icon in the root directory of the Intel CD. Then click the User Configuration Guide button. Updating the Firmware in Windows ================================ In most cases, you must upgrade you firmware before you upgrade the drivers and software. See Upgrading in Windows in the User Configuration Guide for a discussion of this and other software upgrade issues. Firmware Compatibility ====================== The Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter contains field upgradeable firmware designed to support both past and future versions of the iSCSI specification. To locate the most appropriate firmware for your solution, visit the Intel website. See the Upgrading the Firmware section of the online Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter User Configuration Guide for information on upgrading your firmware. It is important that the iSCSI specification supported by the firmware match that of the intended target. The following information shows the compatibility between the Intel initiator and Network Appliance* or Cisco* targets. Firmware Version: 4.6.87.2 iSCSI Spec Version: 0.20 Tested Targets: Network Appliance* F87 and 825C Cisco* SN5420, SN5428 and MDS 9216 (see your target vendor for compatibility) NOTE: The first three set of digits of the PRO/1000 T for IP Storage firmware version number represent the firmware version and the last digit represents the CPLD version.
