This file is divided into the following sections: Features Description Software/Hardware Environment Requirements Installation Requirements Installing the LSI Logic CIM Solution Uninstalling the LSI Logic CIM Solution Restrictions/Limitations * * * * * * * * * * * * Features * * * * * * * * * * * * o Supports management of the CIM (Common Information Model) Managed Object File (MOF). o Supports remote management on a TCP/IP based network, such as the Internet o Provides easy graphical representation of all LSI Logic Fibre Channel Storage elements o Displays device and adapter hierarchy visually in a tree view o Implements a highly portable user interface within the Java programming language o Launches the LSI Logic CIM Browser as a stand-alone Java Application O Starts the LSI Logic CIM Provider automatically as a Windows service * * * * * * * * * * * * Description * * * * * * * * * * * The LSI Logic CIM Solution is a Common Information Model compliant management application for LSI Logic Mass Storage Elements. This tool allows you to connect to remote computers on a TCP/IP based network and manage the storage elements attached to them. The managed elements include Fibre Channel host adapters (acting as SCSI controllers), SCSI peripheral devices, and SCSI device drivers installed on the computer. The LSI Logic CIM Solution consists of two separate software components: o An LSI Logic CIM Browser, and o An LSI Logic CIM Provider The LSI Logic CIM Browser provides a means of connecting to any computer on a TCP/IP based network, and manages the storage elements attached to them. The LSI Logic CIM Browser may be installed on any machine that you wish to manage your storage elements. It is possible to install a single LSI Logic CIM Browser and have it manage multiple computers on the network. The managed elements include Fibre Channel (FC) host adapters (acting as SCSI Controllers), SCSI peripheral devices, and SCSI device drivers installed on the computer. You launch the LSI Logic CIM Browser as a Java application by using the Java VM (Virtual Machine) that the installation package installs. The LSI Logic CIM Provider is a Windows service that runs on the computer being managed. It provides information about the Fibre Channel, SCSI controllers and devices connected to the FC SCSI controllers on that computer. You must install the LSI Logic CIMSolution on every computer that you wish to manage. The LSI Logic CIM Solution may run on Windows NT, W2K, XP and Server 2003 operating systems. * * * * Software/Hardware Environment Requirements * * * * The software/hardware environment and tools that are required to perform this LSI Logic CIM Solution installation are listed below. Please verify these requirements are met before installing the LSI Logic CIM Solution: o Windows NT version 4.0 installed, Service Pack 6 or above installed o Windows 2000 installed, Service Pack 2 or above installed o About 20 Mbytes of disk space available o Windows TCP/IP protocol installed and enabled o Set the video card to support at least 256 colors, and set your screen/ desktop area to be 800 by 600 pixels or greater *************************** Installation Requirements *********************** The LSI Logic CIM solution is a Java-based application and requires the Java runtime environment. The CIM Solution installation package will automatically install the Java runtime environment along with LSI Logic CIM Provider and LSI Logic CIMBrowser. In order to perform management, even local management, of a computer system, you must configure your computer system with TCP/IP based networking. * * * * * * * Installing the LSI Logic CIM Solution * * * * * * * To install the LSI Logic CIM Solution, you execute an InstallAnywhere setup script. If you receive this program on CD-ROM, simply run "install.htm" to begin the installation. To download and launch the installation package, select the "Download Installer for Windows" button. In the event that this button does not appear in the Web Browser, press on the "Download" link. To verify the installation for the LSI Logic "CIM Provider" Service, follow these steps: 1. Click on the Start button to open the Services display. 2. Move to Settings-->Control Panel-->Services; or Move to Settings-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Services 3. Confirm that "LSICIMProvider" is listed as a service, and its status is "Started." To verify the installation for the LSI Logic CIMBrowser, you launch the application from the "Start-->Programs-->LSI CIMBrowser" shortcut. * * * * * * * Uninstalling the LSI CIM Solution * * * * * * * * To uninstall the LSI Logic CIM Solution, follow these steps: 1. Click on the Start button. 2. Move to Settings-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs. 3. Exit from the LSI Logic CIM Browser (if kept opened) first. 4. Remove the LSI Logic CIM Solution program to uninstall it. Note: LSI Logic recommends exiting from the LSI Logic CIM Browser, if you have installed it, so that the uninstall procedure successfully removes all files correctly. ************************* Restrictions/Limitations ************************** As mentioned in the Software/Hardware Requirements section, installing the LSI Logic CIM Solution package requires that you configure your system's video display for at least 256 colors. To check the current configuration of your system, follow these steps: 1. Click on the Start button. 2. Move to Settings-->Control Panel-->Display. 3. Choose the Settings tab in the Display Properties window. 4. Read the information displayed in the Colors entry to check your video card's configuration. For optimal viewing of the LSI Logic CIM Browser, LSI Logic recommends that you choose a screen/desktop area of 1024 by 768 pixels.
