This release note and the software that accompanies it are copyright (c) 2005, Intel Corporation, and may only be installed and used in accordance with the license that accompanies the software. This download supports Intel(R) RAID controllers SRCS16 & SRCS28X please verify that this utility has been tested with the RAID card you have chosen to use by checking the drivers web page for your controller at http://support.intel.com. ================ Package Information ================ Utility Version = 1.00 ==================== Attention! ==================== Hard drive cache for Intel RAID controllers is disabled by default for data security purposes. The utility in this download is designed to enable or disable hard drive cache. Enabling hard drive cache increases the risk that data held in cache and not yet written to disk could be lost. This is because there is no battery backup for data held in hard drive cache. Drive cache for mission critical applications should not be enabled. This download supports Intel(R) SCSI RAID controllers SRCS16 & SRCS28X only. For data integrity concerns, when enabling hard drive write back cache, you should add an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to support the system to avoid a power interruption issue. DATA HELD IN Hard DRive CACHE MAY BE LOST if there is any power interruption. ================ Known Restrictions ================ 1. This utility only supports a server system with one SRCS16 or one SRCS28X installed. If you attach less than 6 SATA HDDs to the SRCS16 or less than 8 SATA HDDs to the SRCS28X, the original PORT setting for the missing drive(s) will be retained (not changed). This would lead to an incorrect setting if a drive was added at a later time if the utility was not rerun. 2. After you run the batch file, the PORT setting of the HDD write cache will be changed and stored. This means the HDD cache setting on the PORT will be kept even if you reboot your system or you replace a new HDD. ==================== Contents on the package ==================== The following files are included in this package: Name Description CMDtool.exe Utility Web Licence.rtf License cmdtool_readme.txt This file ============ Instructions ============ 1. Run cmdtool.exe to extract contents to a floppy disk 2. Insert only one SRCS16 or SRCS28X into your server. 3. connect 6 SATA HDDs to SRCS16 or 8 SATA HDDs to SRCS28X. 4. Boot from the floppy disk and run "WCE" to enable hard drive cache or run "WCD" to disable hard drive cache. ============== Fixes/Updates ============== This is the initial release of this utility. *Third-party trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
