BIOS - P07.40 or later BMC Firmware 45 or later FRUSDR 6.6.3 or later ============================================================================= BIOS Update Procedure ============================================================================= BIOS Update Option 1 - Floppy Disk Update: Note: When performing a BIOS update using the Floppy Disk option, the BIOS Bootblock is automatically updated along with the operational code. 1. Extract Floppy.zip to a folder, Insert blank floppy diskette in drive A: **NOTE** : All Data on floppy diskette will be destroyed! 2. Use "MAKEFLPY.bat" to create a Update BIOS Flpooy. 3. Boot the system and press to run BIOS Setup. 4. Write down the current custom changes to any default settings in the BIOS Setup program. You will need these settings to reconfigure your system at the end of the update procedure because CMOS values will be cleared automatically during the BIOS update. Press to exit BIOS Setup. 5. Boot system with Update Bios floppy. 6. When BIOS flash update is complete, it will display a message that all writing and verification of flash is done. Next, power cycle the system. 7. If the FLASH process fails, please follow the BIOS Recovery Instructions at the end of this document to recover the system BIOS. 8. Press to enter BIOS Setup, and re-enter the custom values you wrote down in step 4. Press to save the values and exit Setup. BIOS Update Option 2 - Other bootable storage Update (size > 5MB): Note: The BIOS BOOT BLOCK has changed with this release. When updating the BIOS from a previous release, you must run the FBB.BAT file which performs both the boot block and operational code update. **NOTE** : jumper J1A4 (BIOS partition selection) should be set to pins 1-2 to select the correct BIOS partition. 1. Extract BIOS.ZIP to a bootable storage such as USB DISK-ON-KEY. 2. Boot the system and press to run BIOS Setup. 3. Write down the current custom changes to any default settings in the BIOS Setup program. You will need these settings to reconfigure your system at the end of the update procedure because CMOS values will be cleared automatically during the BIOS update. Press to exit BIOS Setup. 4. Place the bootable storage device, such as USB DISK-ON-KEY, containing the new BIOS into USB port of the system, and boot to pure DOS mode. (non-himem environment) 5. Run fbb.bat to update both system ROM and bootblock 6. When the BIOS flash update is complete, it will display a message that all writing and verification of flash is done. NOTE: If the FLASH process fails, please follow the BIOS Recovery Instructions at the end of this document to recover the system BIOS. 7. Cycle power. ie) Turn system off and then back on. 8. Press to enter BIOS Setup, and re-enter the custom values you wrote down in step 3. Press to save the values and exit Setup. ============================================================================= BIOS RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS ============================================================================= The BIOS Recovery Operation should be attempted if for any reason the BIOS gets corrupted causing the system to hang at POST generating a CMOS error. Should the system exhibit POST hangs due to BIOS corruption, you should: Option 1) cycle power. This option will perform 1 of 2 possible operations. The reboot may clear possible BIOS corruption with the Primary BIOS image and the system will boot normally. If the Primary BIOS image is non-correctable, the system will perform an Auto Recovery which loads the secondary or backup BIOS image. If this option is not successful and your system continues to exhibit CMOS corruption errors, you can attempt option 2. Option 2) - Turn off the system - Verify the jumper on jumper block J1A4 is set to Pins 1-2. - Build Recovery Storage Media using files compressed in the RECOVERY.ZIP file A.Recovery from USB Disk-on-key or other large media 1. Prepare a formatted and bootable storage media device such as a USB DISK_ON_KEY. 2. Copy AMIBOOT.ROM to it. B.Recovery from multiple floppy disks. 1. Prepare 2 blank disks. 2. The first disk(disk0) must be made bootable 3. Copy amiboot.000 to disk0, and amiboot.001 to disk1. - Execute BIOS Recovery - set Recovery Boot Jumper by moving jumper J1H2 row B from Pins 1-2 to Pins 2-3 - Insert the recovery media to the appropriate drive or USB interface. - Power on system - The System will automatically boot to the media and start the BIOS recovery operation. - During multi-disk recovery operation, system will beep (1sec) continuously to notify user to insert disk1 - When the update has completed, the system will beep 4 times, followed by an endless beep. - Turn off the system and unplug it. - set jumper J1H2 back to Normal mode J1H2 B(1-2). - Recovery operation complete. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= KNOWN ISSUES/WORKAROUNDS with This Release ============================================================================= - The BIOS setup item "Maximum CPUID Value Limit" must be enabled for installing some legacy OSes which do not support it. ============================================================================= FEATURES ADDED To This Release ============================================================================= Build 0076: P.07.40 - (none) ============================================================================= ISSUES FIXED In This Release ============================================================================= Build 0076: P.07.40 - Fix- Advanced IMM can not get valid video with double termination and bad common biasing on the DVI interface. ============================================================================= ** End of Current Release Notes ** ============================================================================= ============================================================================= Pedigree of Changes ============================================================================= This Section describes changes made to all previous BIOS Releases Build 0075: P.07.30 - Fix - Windows* Server 2003 with /PAE does not see 16GBs (4x4GB DIMMs). - Upgrade ATI VGA OpROM (GR-xlints3y.019-4.333) Build 0074: P.07.20 - Add a BIOS workaround to fix LSI 320-2 FW1L33 OpROM issue.
